Extended Biography

Birth and early yearsNathaniel was born to David and Jennifer Everton in the family home in Limsa Lominsa. His father is a mid-ranking member of the Lominsan Navy, and his mother an accomplished baker. From a young age, Nathaniel learned to help his mother in the kitchen, and benefitted from the rigor and structure of growing up under the guidance of a military man. Nathaniel was a well-mannered child who performed well in school, was well-liked by his peers and teachers, and worked hard to please his parents. For as long as Nathaniel can remember, he has had a great love of animals. One of his first memories is of a day-trip to the zoo. While other children may attend the zoo as spectators, and be happy to see an animal or two and come home with a souvenir, Nathaniel became immediately transfixed. He studied the animals, the infrastructure, and the work of the staff with keen interest. From that day forth, he would exhaust his mother and father with questions about the animals, until they bought him a set of textbooks on the subject. Within a year, Nathaniel had consumed all of the knowledge he could from the books and was a veritable walking reference guide to animal species, anatomy and behavior. He could be found following his mother or father reciting animal facts ad-nauseum, with no care to whether he had already shared them or not. To his parents, this behavior was exasperating, but it quickly illustrated to them the promise the boy showed and they began to save money to provide for his education.AdolescenceAs an only child, Nathaniel learned how to keep himself company by inventing imaginary ecosystems in which he served the role of Conservator. He conjured imaginary animals and biomes to explore, and was mostly happy with his solitary playtime. As he grew, his imaginative playtime turned into exploration of the very real biomes he lived in. He grew to know every species of animal that he came upon on his excursions, befriending many that he encountered on his travels with a wholesome snack or soothing words. One evening when Nathaniel was exploring the woods surrounding his family home, he came upon a fawn with an injured leg. The tiny animal lay in a clearing between a copse of trees, trembling as it saw Nathaniel approach. He stopped dead in his tracks, not wishing to alarm the creature and cause it to run and potentially further the injury. Nathaniel looked around, surveying the woods for any sign of the animal’s mother, finally spotting a trail of dried blood and trampled undergrowth leading away from the clearing.Reasoning that he had stumbled upon the aftermath of a predatory conflict, Nathaniel knew he had to rescue the fawn somehow. Instinctually, he came to his knees and began talking softly and slowly approaching the fawn while crouched. The tiny animal was frightened, and tried to pull itself to its feet but was swiftly overcome by pain and slumped back to the ground. As Nathaniel reached the deer, he placed a hand on it reassuringly as he pulled at the soft cotton sweater which had been tied at his waist. He used this to secure what appeared to be a broken leg in place against the fawn's body, effectively immobilizing it, and then swaddling the rest of the animal's body. He stood, cradling the fawn in his arms, sufficiently content that this makeshift sling would be a safe way to bring the animal home. His mother was none too happy that Nathaniel had brought home a wild animal, but after hearing the story agreed that it could stay overnight and that they would find veterinary care in the morning. Nathaniel sat up with the fawn, giving it bits of vegetables and fruit to eat and assuring it that “everything will be alright”. When his mother came to wake him, she found him curled around the fawn, both of them fast asleep. She woke him gently, and the two quickly departed with haste to the vet’s office. The veterinarian, Dr. Thomas Dreyfuss, praised Nathaniel for his quick thinking and admirable skill in tending to the young fawn, and during the examination the two built a rapport that was almost immediately akin to a mentor-pupil relationship. Dr. Dreyfuss was so impressed by Nathaniel’s knowledge that he made it a point to pull Nathaniel’s mother aside and suggest offering the young man a volunteer opportunity. It wouldn’t be paid, but Nathaniel would learn a lot, and the clinic could use some extra hands to deal with the constant stream of patients. Jennifer readily agreed, grateful that it would mean Nathaniel would have an outlet for his passions and that it could help prepare him for what was clearly shaping up to be his dream career.Late adolescence/early adulthoodNathaniel’s relationship with Dr. Dreyfuss - Tom, as he preferred to be called - grew and evolved over the next few years, as did the nature of his work at the clinic. Once the boy came of age for proper employment, he was quickly offered a formal job and began to work part time while pursuing his studies. Tom became the closest friend and mentor that Nathaniel had, and had even contributed a sizeable gift to the family to send Nathaniel to a proper veterinary school. In time, Nathaniel came to consider Tom like a second father and a confidant second only to his own mother. They opened the clinic together early in the morning, preparing for the patients that would be coming in for the day and discussing anything from upcoming assignments, to patient care, to what boys Nathaniel had taken an interest in in school. Until one day Tom didn’t show up for work. Nathaniel arrived at the usual time and began organizing the client charts for the day’s appointments, fully expecting to hear Tom’s booming voice anytime. But suddenly the first client arrived, and still there was no sign of the resident veterinarian.Nathaniel assured the incoming patients that Tom would be in at any moment, noting how unlike him it was to be late. He tried calling Dr. Dreyfuss’ pearl, to no avail. Finally, after a significant amount of time Nathaniel apologized and asked to reschedule the appointments for the gathered clientele, wrote a sign of apology on the door asking other clients to call for a rescheduling, and went to Tom’s house. He knocked, but heard no response from the other side. He felt this was a justifiable reason as any to use the key that Tom had given him for his house to tend to his pets while he was away on vacations. A quick trip around the front of the house gave no clue to Tom’s location, finally he came to the last portion of the house - the bedroom. As his anxiety built, he opened the door slowly and his heart sank as he saw a crumpled body in the middle of the floor. He rushed to Tom’s side and attempted to rouse him but could immediately tell it was far too late for intervention, his dearest friend and mentor was gone.Into the presentThe next year went by in a bit of a blur. Nathaniel was named as the sole beneficiary of Tom’s estate, which was far from inconsequential. He graduated college and became a proper Veterinarian. He moved into Tom’s home, tended to his animals, and began to run the clinic - almost as if the two had simply swapped lives. And it was true that in the swap, something in Nathaniel died as well - or simply grew and evolved. Each milestone felt somehow less sweeter when measured with the loss of the man who had done so much to prepare him to attain it. Those who know him have seen the change, but remain hopeful that the exuberant, enthusiastic man they knew is still inside somewhere, waiting to reemerge after a period of mourning.

Pronouns: He/Him/His
Patron Diety: Oschon
Appearance: Nathaniel is an attractive Hyur midlander of average height. He has a moderately muscled build, light blue eyes, and hay colored hair.Personality: Nathaniel is quick to smile, help a stranger, or forgive a trespass. There is an air of naivete about him, which either adds to his charm or detracts from it, depending who you ask. He is easily distracted, especially by his work, to the detriment of his personal relationships. A loyal and honest friend is readily made by those with patience to see past his aloofness.Mannerisms: Nathaniel’s face betrays his feelings, especially when confusion or doubt enter into the equation. A 10,000 malm stare is not uncommon to witness when a joke goes over his head, which happens all too frequently. Nathaniel is prone to laughing or quickly agreeing to cover up lapses in understanding.Combat ability: Nathaniel is not terribly keen at fighting. He is fit and able-bodied, but has not trained for combat. He does, however, have an affinity for animals - specifically for the large wolf hound he cares for that belonged to his mentor and friend prior to his death - which may come to his defense if attacked, or aid if provoked.

Hooks (Yes!)

ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Everton Animal Clinic; maybe you have a sick pet or have rescued an errant creature in need of veterinary care?ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Professional Colleague; maybe you're in the medical field or an overlapping field of science?ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Chance Run In; a wild care, I'm always happy to be flexible.ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Philanthropy; maybe your character is a philanthropist or someone concerned with conservations efforts?ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Friendship/Romance; or they could just be roommates.

Hooks (No!)

ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Casual hookups - while I don't necessarily think he'd shy away from it, writing ERP for ERP sake is not my thing so I am reserving the right to say no.ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Fighting/Dueling - Nathaniel isn't particularly good at fighting and isn't the type who'd be running around picking fights.ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Overt crime - this would be a difficult hook since Nathaniel is a good boy.

Hooks (Maybe!)

ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Mentor/Mentee - Could be fun in the right situation!ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Antagonist - Depending on the context, I'd be down for an enemy or frenemy!ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ - Dark/Mature plots - if it made sense for his overarching story, I'd be into it.

OOC Information

Thanks for taking the time to check out my Carrd for Nathaniel! If you found him interesting and would be interested in roleplaying, or just being OOC friends, I'm including some personal information about myself below for your reference.First and foremost, I am not my character. His actions are his, as are his relationships. The only IC/OOC bleed I am looking for is mutual friendship.I enjoy writing plots of all different varieties including mature and dark themes. I do not, however, enjoy writing ERP for the sake of ERP and generally prefer to fade-to-black sexual scenarios. Some intimacy is okay, but for all out bangin' I'd rather not have to try to imagine a dozen different synonyms for penis. Please respect this if you want to RP with me.I am looking for roleplay with other adults over the age of 21 who are kind, communicative, and believe in universal human rights.I'm a cis-gay male of a certain age living in the Pacific Northwest with my partner, 2 dogs and 3 cats. I'm a pianist and enjoy cooking.
